Mathematical Modelling
Guided research projects using equations and simulations to study real systems.
Mathematical modelling turns a real situation into variables, assumptions, equations, and computational rules. A model helps us explain a system, test possible changes, and make predictions.
The projects here study systems from biology, public health, buildings, and energy networks. Students decide which parts of the system matter, build and run a model, compare its behaviour with evidence, and explain its limits. The research is therefore as much about choosing and checking assumptions as it is about solving equations.
